Abstract
The connection of people in general and scientists in particular suggests new levels of collaboration and coordination. The internet's very beginnings were to facilitate scientific and technical data sharing. And though it is now more than a decade since those beginnings, we are only starting to explore the ways in which such tools facilitate new R&D organizational structures and new approaches to harnessing human intellect. In this presentation, we will examine both some theoretical principles that should guide future research organizations and at least one practical example and its consequent experiences.
