COLLECTIVE INTELLIGENCE DESIGN LAB (CIDL)
MIT’s Collective Intelligence Design Lab (CIDL) helps groups design innovative new kinds of collectively intelligent systems (superminds) to solve important problems.
» Do you have a big challenge that you are looking to solve in a new way?
» Would you like to understand how AI, other digital technologies, and new ways of organizing people could help solve this problem?
» Would you like to truly harness the intelligence of the people in your organization — and perhaps outside it — to solve the problem?
The MIT Collective Intelligence Design Lab leverages decades of multidisciplinary MIT research and the expertise of our faculty and staff to help groups develop innovative ways of solving their problems.
- We’re not focused just on finding the solutions to the problems, but on designing new collectively intelligent systems — new superminds — that can continue to solve similar problems.
- We’re not focused just on using new information technologies, but also on how to organize people in new ways so the superminds of people and computers together can solve problems more intelligently than ever before.
- And we’re not focused on applying routine solutions to common problems; we want to advance the state of the art by helping groups design innovative solutions for interesting problems.
Drawing on fields from design thinking to crowdsourcing, from economics to artificial intelligence, and from cognitive science to organization theory, we won’t give you the answers, but we’ll work with you to help develop new ways of solving your important problems.
One of CIDL’s ongoing activities is development of a systematic methodology for what we call supermind design. The goal is to provide fine-grained tools that can be used to think about how to combine people and computers in novel ways that will accomplish important work faster, with less cost, or with higher quality. The Supermind Design Primer provides an overview of this approach.
HOW TO ENGAGE
The MIT Collective Intelligence Design Lab is currently seeking sponsoring organizations with interesting problems to solve. These organizations can be companies, governments (city, state, national, and other), non-profits, or other groups. Over time, we also expect to involve a broader range of individuals and other organizations to help solve these problems.
